Fun Ways to Celebrate Earth Day 50th Anniversary in 2020

4/21/2020

Comments

If we truly think about it, Earth Day should be every day! However, we are sharing some fun ideas you can do to celebrate our planet Earth today!
The theme for Earth Day 2020 is climate action. We can try to make small actions that can have a big impact! There are various resources online that can help you do so as well.

You can find ways to connect by checking out the official Earth Day website. No matter where you are in the world, you can make a difference! You can enjoy fun and new ways as Earth Day is completely mobile this year as we are currently dealing with the global pandemic. There will be stories, performances, and ways to take action.  You can follow along on social media with #EarthDay2020.

If you're wanting to share more about the Earth with the kiddos, here are a few stories and songs on YouTube. All of these links are on YouTube, with the books being read outloud!
  • How To Help The Earth
  • Earth Day Every Day
  • It's Earth Day
  • Earth Day Celebration Around the World
  • Earth Day Songs For Kids or Earth Day Children's Song
  • Earth Day Alphabet

If you're looking for more ways to stay engaged throughout the day,  here are some links from the official Earth Day website:
  • Join in on Earth Day LIVE all day: https://www.earthday.org/earth-day-live/
  • Learn and share the history of Earth Day with your family, especially the kiddos. They need to understand and learn from us!  https://www.earthday.org/history/
  • Participate in Earth Day activities based on what YOU want to do! You can find a virtual map here: https://www.earthday.org/earth-day-2020/#map and you simply enter in the type of event you're interested in, the age group, and a language! Super easy and super fun. I'll share some ideas I found below.

To get the kiddos involved, you can colour our printable colouring sheet! This is FREE PDF download that you can print multiple of, and enjoy with the kiddos too. Be sure to tag us at @creationsbysh (feel free to tag @earthdaynetwork too!), so we can spread the word! We need to flood the digital space with love and light, especially during this pandemic. Having a little one myself, I narrowed down a couple of events that were happening online that you may find fun! Here they are for ages 1-6:
  • Online STEM Sprouts: https://www.facebook.com/events/2615318302123566/
  • Sing Along + Puppet Show: https://secure2.convio.net/fsi/site/SSurvey?ACTION_REQUIRED=URI_ACTION_USER_REQUESTS&SURVEY_ID=9224

As for activities to keep them busy, here are a few fun resources that you can do at home with things you probably already have!
  1. Playdough Earth
  2. Outdoor Play
  3. Torn Paper Earth Craft
  4. Make The Earth + Make The Earth Happy
  5. Earth Painted Rocks
  6. Earth Day Yoga

I hope you find these small ways to celebrate our earth both fun and interactive! Tag us in the ways that you are celebrating Earth Day with us online, and we would love to share.

Keep safe <3
